Before coming to Botswana with Round River Conservation studies I felt as though I was going into it blind. I did not know what a typical day either at base camp or in the bush looked like. It did not bother me that I didn’t have this information, but I feel as though it could be helpful to future students to get a better sense of what the program is and what a typical day in the bush looks like. I was so full of excitement to come and study abroad in Africa that not knowing certain details didn’t bother me. I was eager to learn and practice skills especially related to going with the flow and not being in control of everything. Although I did wish that I had a little more information. People would ask me certain questions like “What does a typical day look like” and I felt like I had limited information to answer their questions. I always have found that visuals have helped me so that is why I created a video explaining what we do on transects and what Round River is along with some fun clips from a couple of concessions. This program has helped me grow in so many ways I cannot even explain. Learning about the culture of Botswana and the people who are also on this trip here has changed my life for the better. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity that I have been given to be here and a huge thank you to my parents, family, and friends for supporting me in taking this big step and adventuring for three months. I hope you decide to take part in this amazing program, and if you do, be ready for it to change your life. I hope this video helps in understanding more about the program. My YouTube channel is kiera.cacioppo as well as my Instagram. I will be uploading videos relating to each concession so be on the lookout for those as well. Enjoy.
