Video by Alana Danieu, Carleton College (Team Guanaco)
As our time in Patagonia began to wrap up, we returned to base camp for one last week to take exams and complete our final research papers. While we were all excited for our next destinations, the end of the program started to feel real as we had our last exam, last movie night, last meal of “slop”, last night sleeping in a tent at base camp. When I was first assigned to blog about finals week, I wasn’t very excited. It didn’t seem nearly as cool as writing about the Fiordo Bernardo or Glacier Chico or any of our other trips this semester. I quickly found though, creating this video blog would capture so many of our fun, strange, special moments together. Our days at base camp, while not as exciting as exploring the fjords or hiking to a glacier, were really special and meaningful to me this semester in a different way. They were a chance to recover from our exhilarating, exhausting trips, and to spend time just hanging out together. I came to realize that our days at base camp were just as significant a part of the semester to me as our field expeditions. I hope you enjoy a peek into a day in our life.

After a final, Mike Siggins lost an “Odds” challenge to jump in the Cochrane River with all of his clothes that he brought to Chile. Mike lost a lot of odds.
