Round River students in Patagonia joined Guardaparques from the Chilean Forest Service (CONAF) to survey territory recently added to the Tamango National Reserve for huemul deer (Hippocamelus bisulcus). The reserve near the small town of Cochrane historically maintained a robust population of the highly endangered deer, but recent CONAF studies have found fewer and fewer huemul. Round River students recently provided extra eyes, ears, and bodies to plow through the unforgiving brushy transects, up and down steep terrain above Cochrane Lake, recording 5 sightings of four individuals.
