At 10:30pm, we stood shining our headlamps to study the front left tire of our Round River rental truck. We had almost made it back to the main road from our transect location in Bahia Jara when a sharp branch punctured the tire.

While at Mababe Camp, I spent several days with Godfrey, one of the camp’s leaders, trying to see the bush the way he does—paying attention to the small things, figuring out how to handle challenges, and making the most of life at camp.

This is the true beauty of Botswana, all the aspects of the environment we take for granted, or often completely disregard. But one of the best things about Round River is that we are outside for every one of these moments, so we always have the chance to appreciate them.
